Here is my newly re-arranged living room. I like it except for one thing.
This little spot here is tying my thinker into a knot. The area behind the couch where I put a small dresser as a sofa table is a black hole. (Or, in this case, a white hole.)
I was thinking it would be a backdrop to put books, lamp, flowers, etc. Everything I have tried seems to look funny. Lamps look weird because they block or distract the eye from the pictures behind them. I was thinking I could put orchids in this square basket because they wouldn't block the pictures. I can't pile up books because I have books in the fireplace, bench/coffee table and another area you can't see in this pic.
Knick-knacks aren't my forte. I'll have to go buy something. Any fresh ideas? What do you think?
Which one do we like better? Also, do you like the seahorse or the octopus here? They are too cute to have to choose between the two. (The fish kinda creeps me out though.)

Ohh... I love this kind of challenge! And I hate the feeling of having to go out any buy something, so lets make that a last resort - unless you come across a deal and then your opportunity is obvious.
My first thought is that the dresser behind the sofa does not seem to be the right piece for that spot. Can you move the whole arrangement so that there could be nothing behind the sofa? It might feel airy, simple and clean.
Or, what about the club chairs flanking the fireplace and the back of the sofa facing you as you walk in? Maybe you have a great cozy throw that could go over on side of the back of the sofa.
I love stacked books and do not think you can have to many. What about moving the stacks of books behind the sofa (Assuming you make the back of the sofa what you see when you walk in the room). Maybe lots of the white candles in the fireplace instead of the mantle place? Love that look. But the books in the fireplace look pretty amazing too! If you are going with beach theme, could you put them in a tray of sand?
I love all the pillows except the freaky fish. ; )
BTW - I mean the candles in a tray of sand...not the books! ; )
